STRAW India was one of the first few members of FIAPO and I had the good fortune of being its board member, too. When we were just beginning our innings into animal welfare, being a part of FIAPO was a great boost to our confidence. FIAPO’s India for Animals Conference is another platform where we get to meet like-minded people. The Education and Outreach Awards, which we won twice, have helped us attract good employees, volunteers and donors.

The New Animal Laws
On 1 July 2024, the 164-year-old Indian Penal Code was replaced by the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and the Criminal Procedure Code, 1973, was replaced by the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS). The New Animal Laws, a FIAPO publication, clarifies the sections of the new laws that correspond to the previous law, IPC and CrPC, to help animal rights activists and animal lovers alike to respond to crimes against animals.
